Tariff Update: What April 2025 Means for Your Supply Chain
On April 2, 2025, President Trump announced a sweeping global tariff policy, calling it a move to reignite American industry. The announcement- made during a White House event dubbed “Liberation Day”– introduced new baseline and country-specific tariffs that will significantly impact global trade lanes.
As your logistics partner, Aden Logistics is here to help you break it down.
What You Need to Know
The new policy includes:
- A 10% baseline tariff on all U.S. trade partners (effective April 5)
- A 25% tariff on certain imported vehicles and auto parts (effective April 3)
- Country-specific increases, including:
-
- China: 34%
- European Union: 20%
- United Kingdom: 10%
- Japan: 24%
- Taiwan: 32%
President Trump described the tariffs as “kind reciprocal” – not matching what other countries charge the U.S. dollar-for-dollar, but set at about half their rates.
What’s Exempt?
Not everything is subject to the new tariffs. Key exemptions include:
- Products compliant with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA):
- USMCA-compliant goods from Canada and Mexico = 0% tariff
- Non-compliant goods = 25% tariff
- Energy and potash products = 10% tariff
- Goods unavailable in the U.S., including:
- Certain pharmaceuticals
- Semiconductors
- Specific steel, aluminum, lumber, and automotive products
